Zombieland

Well it has been another year…I had made a resolution slash determination to post daily. Lotta strands in old Duder’s head. Fortunately, I’m adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber.

So in the time since I last posted, Zombies have chomped away with the entertainment scene. There has always been a zombie flick or two worth watching, but now it seems there are zombies everywhere…and this isn’t a bad thing. The Walking Dead came back from the crappy soap opera dead of season 2 with a pretty gory season 3. If they can come back, so can I. Inspiration from a Zombie TV show? Reaching, I know hehe. Anyway, call it distraction from hockey playoffs, a warm spring night amongst the Pinons, or any other excuse one can make for procrastinating…but it is a start. Well…Best Achievements in Zombie:
– Shaun of the Dead. Wonderfully original take on Zombies. Who would have thought a gruesome subject could be so much fun. “Zombieland” would be entry 1a…another fun romp. Bill Murray was genius.
– George Romero. I’ve not liked Italian sausage with marinara since watching the guts-eating scene in 1978’s “Dawn of the Dead.” And the 2004 “remake?” Whoever on that production to change the rules and make zombies uh…fast? Fucker. That was a brutally scary stroke of brilliance.
– The Walking Dead. It started out fine in season one (I’m not one to read printed books anymore, so I have no idea how it followed the graphic novel) but then it devolved into some real crappy soap opera with an occasional zombie walking by. I was about done with the series…there was a scene that just irked the shit out of me: people at the farm are standing out in the middle of a field. They are obviously going to be living in a constant state of “watch out for fucking zombie 24/7” and yet they are still attacked by a zombie. I call this “teleportation zombie” and fuck that…any credibility in that production is gone. But season 3 made up for most of the shyte that was the fucked up love triangle of seasons 1 and 2.
– Juan of the Dead. See this movie. It is a low budget Cuban flick that is way better than it has any reason to be. Great great fun.
– Tôkyô zonbi (Tokyo Zombie). Another fun fun movie with some excellent Brazilian Jujitsu. Very good stuffs.
– The Happiness of the Katakuris. Takashi Miike. “The Sound of Music” with zombies and some crappy claymation. Just zany fun.
Runners up:
-Wasting Away, aka “Aaah! Zombies!!” Life (or whatever you’d call it) and love from a zombie point of view.
-28 Days Later. Great.
-Dead Snow. Nazi Zombies. Nuff said.
-Rec. Spanish zombieish flick. Scary. Remade into “Quarantine.”
-Idle Hands. Jessica Alba and the undead.

Feels good to be back. I’ve got a lot of things to say and places to say them. Things will be light and serious, politically incorrect and jaded, hopefully interesting and always fun. Yes, it is good to be back.
